Hua Hin is about 230 km from Bangkok, roughly a 3.5-hour drive, and Prachuap town is another 90 km or so further south. This plan works best if you drive yourself, because the sights are spread out and public transport between them is hard to piece together, especially around Khao Sam Roi Yot. If you really don't have a car, rent one in Hua Hin, or take the train down to Hua Hin and rent from there.
We've laid out the route heading steadily south so you never double back. Day one is all Hua Hin. Day two tackles Khao Sam Roi Yot in the morning, then moves into Prachuap town. Day three covers Prachuap town before you head home.
Day 1
Hua Hin — beach, market, and the legendary train station
Morning
Leave Bangkok early, reach Hua Hin by late morning, and drop your bags at the hotelSetting off before 7 am helps you dodge the traffic around Rama II Road
10:30
Stop for photos at Hua Hin Railway Station, a cream-and-red wooden building with the King Rama VI royal pavilion — one of the prettiest stations in ThailandFree to enter, but it gets crowded late morning, so come earlier if you want clear shots
Midday
Have lunch around Chatchai Market, the old morning market in the town center, with fresh produce, dried seafood, salted fish, and souvenirsMost breakfast and lunch spots in central Hua Hin close in the early afternoon
Afternoon
Swim or just relax at Hua Hin Beach, or drive over toward Khao Takiab, which has plenty of beachfront cafes and photo spotsAt low tide you can walk far out on Hua Hin Beach, which is great for evening photos
Evening
Wander the Hua Hin Night Market, packed with street food and grilled seafood, open roughly 6 pm to midnightSeafood stalls in the market run a bit pricey, so check prices before you order to be safe
Where to stay the first night
Pick a place around central Hua Hin or Khao Takiab so the market and beach are an easy walk away, and you can get an early start toward Khao Sam Roi Yot the next morning.
Day 2
Khao Sam Roi Yot — Phraya Nakhon Cave, then into Prachuap town
Early morning
Check out and leave Hua Hin for Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, about an hour's drive through PranburiFill up on fuel and grab drinking water before entering the park, since shops inside are few
08:30
Hike up to Phraya Nakhon Cave. The highlight is the Kuha Karuhas royal pavilion, where a shaft of sunlight pours through the cave's opening in the late morningThe cave is open 08:30–15:00. Entry is 40 THB for Thai adults, 20 THB for children, and 200/100 THB for foreigners
On the trail
The way up involves a short but fairly steep climb, around 30–45 minutes on foot, or you can take a boat from Bang Pu Beach and come up via Laem Sala BeachWear sneakers. The light is best around 10:00–10:30, so don't arrive too late or you'll miss it
Midday
Come down from the cave and eat around Bang Pu or Sam Roi Yot, where there are local seafood spots at reasonable pricesThis area is known for fresh prawns, shellfish, and crab thanks to the coast and nearby farms
Afternoon
Drive south into Prachuap town, about an hour, and check in at a hotel in townPrachuap town is much smaller than Hua Hin, so hotels and restaurants are all close together
Evening
Stroll along Prachuap Bay, watch the Saran Withi Bridge at sunset, then find dinner in townPrachuap town is known for mackerel and seafood — ask locals to point you to the good spots
Check before you go to Khao Sam Roi Yot
During the rainy season or at high tide, the boat route and walking trail can close on some days. Check the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park page before you set off to be sure.
Day 3
Prachuap town — Khao Chong Krachok and Ao Manao before heading home
Morning
Have breakfast in town, then climb Khao Chong Krachok, the town's landmark, up its 396 stepsKhao Chong Krachok is open 05:00–20:00 and has lots of monkeys — watch anything in your hands and any food bags
08:00
Reach the temple at the summit of Khao Chong Krachok for 360-degree views over all three bays — Ao Noi, Ao Prachuap, and Ao ManaoGoing up early means gentler sun, open views, and good photos
Late morning
Drive to Ao Manao, a quiet white-sand beach inside the Wing 5 air base, and stop at the World War II heroes memorialThis is a military zone, so you'll exchange your ID for a pass at the entrance and should dress modestly
Midday

SeasonWhen to go
November to February brings good weather and little rain, ideal for caving and climbing. In the rainy season the sea turns murky and some trails get slippery
Getting aroundSelf-drive is best value
The sights are spread out and public transport is hard to connect, so driving yourself is far more flexible. No car? Rent one in Hua Hin
TimingLeave time for the cave
Phraya Nakhon Cave means a climb and timing the light, so don't pack day two too tightly
