Layana Resort & Spa — an adults-only luxury resort on Long Beach, Koh Lanta
If you want Koh Lanta quiet and grown-up, with no children splashing around the pool, and still the service everyone talks about most — Layana Resort & Spa is the name that keeps coming up. It's a 5-star adults-only (18+) resort on Long Beach (Phra Ae), on the northern side of Koh Lanta Yai. There are just 57 rooms/villas spread through tropical gardens, 2 seafront pools plus a Wellness Pool, and the award-winning Linger Longer Spa. The real selling point is staff who remember your name and look after you personally, plus the Andaman sunset right off the beach. From approx. ฿6,500/night · 9.2 from 606 reviews, and ranked 2nd of 103 hotels on Koh Lanta on TripAdvisor.
What sets Layana apart from the other luxury resorts on Koh Lanta is its adults-only policy, 18 and over. The mood is calm, grown-up and romantic — exactly what couples, honeymooners and anniversary trips love — with no children racing around the pool and none of the buzz of a family resort. If you're here to unwind quietly with someone special, that's the first reason people choose the place, and it's something reviews mention again and again.
But what genuinely draws the most praise on every platform is the service. Staff remember guests' names, anticipate what you want before you ask, and look after you so attentively that many say it's the reason they keep coming back. With just 57 rooms it's a small resort, so it can care for everyone in a way big hotels struggle to match. Add the award-winning Linger Longer Spa, with a serious wellness and yoga programme, and it's a place to genuinely recharge.
"The staff knew our names from day one, remembered where we liked to sit and what we drank — that kind of service is what makes you want to come back. It's not just a luxury stay, it feels like someone is really looking after you."
The location is right on Long Beach (Phra Ae), the second main beach on the northern side of Koh Lanta Yai. Long Beach is a long stretch of sand with a fair scattering of restaurants, beach bars and shops along it, but it's still nowhere near as busy as the big tourist towns. The resort is directly on the beach with a private stretch of sand — just a few steps from your room to the water. What people fall for is the Andaman sunset right off the beach — Lanta is a west-facing island, so in the evening you can sip a drink at the Sundowners bar and watch the sun drop straight into the sea.
There are 57 units in all, from the Deluxe Pavilion (around 49 sqm, garden view, with a bathtub), the Grand Garden Pavilion (55 sqm) and the Terrace Suite (60 sqm, split-level with a jacuzzi), up to the seafront Beach Villa and the two-storey Ocean Deluxe Villa with a private jacuzzi. Rooms are spacious, well designed and set among shady tropical gardens. Most reviews praise the space and the design, though some say frankly that a few of the garden-category rooms look a little dated or don't have the private garden you'd expect — if that matters to you, stepping up to the seafront villa categories is better value.
On getting there, understand first that Koh Lanta isn't as close as Ao Nang. These days you can drive onto the island the whole way via the Siri Lanta bridges (mainland → Koh Lanta Noi → Koh Lanta Yai), with hardly any of the old car-ferry waits. From Krabi airport/town it's a private van of roughly 45 minutes to 2 hours to Long Beach, or about 25 minutes by the resort's speedboat. The resort can arrange transfers — book ahead, since Long Beach is fairly quiet and there aren't taxis cruising by to flag down like in town.
Something else worth knowing specifically about Koh Lanta is the seasons. Many resorts on Lanta's west coast scale back service or close during the rainy season (roughly May–October) with the Andaman monsoon. Layana is currently open for bookings in 2026 as usual, but if you're planning a green-season trip, check opening and closing dates with the resort first. And it's the nature of the Andaman that the water goes shallow at low tide and there can be jellyfish in some seasons, so swimming in the sea isn't always convenient — the upside is 2 seafront pools plus a Wellness Pool you can use any time, regardless of the tide.
Things to accept before booking. First, it really is expensive — one of the priciest resorts on Koh Lanta — and the in-resort food is costly too; plenty of reviews say plainly that eating out is much cheaper. Second, the daybeds by the pool and on the sand are limited, filling up fast in the morning, so if you want a good one you'll need to get up and claim it. Third, the resort is fairly compact — warm and private, but small; this isn't a sprawling property to wander around and explore.
Food and the overall atmosphere earn good marks. The main restaurant, SeaSky, sits right on the beach; breakfast is generous and well handled, and caters to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets. There's the Sundowners bar for an evening drink. In short, Layana suits couples, or anyone who wants a quiet, grown-up, adults-only luxury resort on the sand and values attentive service over flash. If you can accept the high prices and a location where you'll rely on a car or scooter to get out and about, it's one of the most-returned-to stays on Koh Lanta. But if you're travelling with children or on a tight budget, look instead at the family resorts on Klong Dao Beach or the southern side.
