Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square — the most central address in Siam, two minutes from BTS and every major mall on foot

Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square is a 4-star Accor hotel sitting inside the Siam Square district at Soi 6, Rama I Road, Pathumwan — one of the most traffic-free, walkable addresses in central Bangkok. That means BTS Siam, the junction of Bangkok's two main Skytrain lines, is a two-minute walk from the lobby. Siam Paragon is immediately across the road; MBK Center is five minutes on foot; Siam Discovery, Siam Square One and CentralWorld are all within comfortable walking distance without crossing a main road. The hotel opened in 1989 and underwent a significant renovation in 2018, adding Smart TV, rainfall showers and refreshed interiors to many rooms. There are 425 rooms in total, an outdoor pool with a children's section, an in-house spa, 24-hour fitness centre and a Kids Club. Prices start from approx. THB 2,800/night in the low season. The hotel holds a score of 8.1/10 from 4,132 verified Booking.com reviews and 8.9/10 from 1,728 Trip.com reviews.

Our Full Review

The hotel has been part of the Siam landscape for over three decades, and the 2018 renovation gave it a meaningful refresh. The New Deluxe Rooms — available in Queen, Twin and Corner configurations — come with a 55-inch Smart TV with screen-mirroring connectivity, a rainfall shower, contemporary vanity lighting and a room layout that flips between a designer sofa and a functional work desk. Standard room size is approximately 30 sq m, which is typical for a centrally-located 4-star in Bangkok — compact but well-designed. Above the Deluxe tier, Premier Rooms include Executive Lounge access with complimentary breakfast and evening drinks.

The detail that appears in nearly every positive review — from Booking.com, Trip.com and TripAdvisor alike — is the location. Step out of the hotel and you are physically inside Siam Square; restaurants, cafés and boutiques line the sois in every direction. Cross Rama I Road and you are at the entrance to Siam Paragon. BTS Siam station, the interchange point between Bangkok's two main Skytrain lines, is approximately 200 metres away — a two-minute walk. From there, Asok, Silom, the river and Suvarnabhumi Airport are all direct connections. Guests who base themselves here consistently report needing very little ground transport throughout their stay.

"Location is absolutely perfect — we walked everywhere: Siam Paragon, MBK, Siam Discovery, all within minutes. Staff were friendly and check-in was smooth."

Service is rated 9.0 on Trip.com, and the feedback behind that number describes a front-desk team praised by name in multiple reviews for proactive problem-solving and a genuinely warm welcome. The outdoor pool is a genuine differentiator at this price point in Siam — few hotels in this district offer an outdoor swimming pool alongside a children's pool, and guests regularly mention it as a pleasant surprise. The In Balance Fitness centre operates 24 hours. The in-house spa provides massage and body treatment services. For families, a dedicated Kids Club is included without charge; children under 15 also eat breakfast at no cost when staying with a paying parent.

The Square restaurant covers international cuisine and Thai dishes across all-day dining, with the breakfast buffet drawing the most consistent praise — variety, fresh tropical fruit and the range of Asian-style dishes are mentioned frequently. Breakfast for adults runs approximately THB 490 per person and is not included in every rate, so check the booking terms. A pool bar operates poolside during the day, and 24-hour room service is available. On-site dining is reasonably priced by Bangkok 4-star standards — a notch below the five-star neighbourhood properties.

A few honest caveats based on recent guest feedback. Some rooms have not yet been through the 2018 renovation — guests in un-renovated rooms have mentioned a faint musty smell or fittings that show their age. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout but some guests have noted inconsistent speeds in rooms farther from access points. The outdoor pool has been temporarily closed for maintenance on at least one occasion without advance notice to guests; it is worth confirming with the hotel that the pool will be open during your specific dates. Parking is available but charged at THB 480 per day, and spaces are limited in the Siam Square car park.

Who is this hotel best suited to? It is almost ideal for anyone whose primary goal is maximum walkability from a BTS-adjacent base in the shopping heart of Bangkok. Solo travellers, couples and families who want to spend their days on foot across Siam Paragon, MBK, Siam Discovery, Siam Square One and CentralWorld — and evenings easily on the Skytrain — will find very little to fault in the location. The outdoor pool and Kids Club tip the balance for families. The trade-off is that this is a midscale 4-star: rooms are comfortable rather than lavish, and some areas of the hotel retain an older feel.

Placed alongside nearby alternatives: Siam@Siam Design Hotel on Rama I Road offers a bolder design aesthetic and a rooftop infinity pool, at a slightly higher price point and marginally farther from BTS Siam. ibis Bangkok Siam, the Accor budget sibling, is attached to BTS National Stadium but at a lower price with fewer facilities. Among 4-star options, Novotel Siam Square strikes the best balance of price, facilities and direct BTS access in this part of Bangkok — a genuinely hard combination to match at this address.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square sells a location that no other mid-range hotel in this district can match — BTS Siam in two minutes and every major shopping mall within walking distance. The renovated rooms are comfortable for a 4-star, the outdoor pool and Kids Club are genuine extras, and service is consistently warm. The honest caveats are that un-renovated rooms fall short of expectations and Wi-Fi reliability varies.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If room condition matters to you — specifically request a New Deluxe Room (post-2018 renovation) when booking or at check-in. Un-renovated rooms have been flagged for older fittings and a faint musty smell in some cases.
  • 💡If pool access is a priority — confirm with the hotel before arrival that the pool will be open during your stay. It has been temporarily closed for maintenance without advance notice on at least one occasion.
  • 💡If you want a more design-led experience with a rooftop pool — Siam@Siam Design Hotel on Rama I Road is a short walk away and offers a bold aesthetic and sky-level infinity pool, at a modestly higher rate. Worth comparing before you decide.

Insider Tips
🚇
Use the Siam Paragon exit of BTS Siam
Walk out of the hotel on Siam Square Soi 6, cross Rama I Road at the zebra crossing in front of Siam Paragon, and the BTS Siam entrance is directly above. The two-minute walk has partial overhead cover and is flat the whole way.
🛏️
Request a renovated room on a higher floor
Specify a New Deluxe Room when booking or at check-in. Higher floors are quieter — lower floors pick up noise from Siam Square below, especially on weekend evenings and public holidays.
🍜
Eat outside the hotel to save money
Siam Square Sois 4–6 are lined with Thai restaurants, Japanese noodle shops and cafés open until late — most under THB 150 per dish. The food court in the basement of Siam Square One, a 2-min walk away, is one of Bangkok's best-value lunch spots.
👨‍👩‍👧
Families: use the Kids Club and pool early
The Kids Club is free and worth booking a slot for at the front desk on arrival. The pool and children's pool are most enjoyable early morning before the heat builds. Children under 15 eat breakfast at no charge with a paying parent — a genuine saving on a multi-night family stay.
