Safari World sits on Panya Indra Road in the Ramindra area, Khlong Sam Wa district, and has been open since 1988 on roughly 500 rai (about 200 acres), making it one of the larger open zoos in the region. What families enjoy is the Safari Park side, a drive-through route of about 5 kilometres where you ease your own car — or the park bus — through open grasslands holding giraffes, zebras, rhinos, deer, bears, tigers and lions in wide spaces. Kids see the animals up close from inside the car. The Marine Park side, meanwhile, is a walk-around park with aquatic animals, a large aviary and several shows running through the day.
Highlights for kids
The parts children tend to talk about afterwards are mostly about seeing big animals up close. Here's what to look forward to — and there's a note on the performing-animal shows at the end that we'd suggest reading before you decide.
- Driving through the Safari Park — the highlight families love most: take your own car (windows up) or the park bus along the roughly 5-kilometre route past giraffes, zebras, rhinos, deer, bears, tigers and lions, all viewed up close.
- The Giraffe Terrace — walk up a ramp to giraffe head-height and buy feed to offer them by hand; it's the moment little kids love most, and it makes for fun photos.
- Walking Marine Park — a shaded walk-around park with aquatic pools and a large aviary of macaws and tropical birds, good for kids to stretch their legs and see animals close up.
- Plant-eater feeding spots — corners where you can feed giraffes, camels, ponies and swans, a gentle way for kids to get close to animals.
- Cowboy Stunt Show — a movie-style cowboy stunt performance with human performers only, no animals — fun for kids and easy on the conscience.
Tips for bringing kids
The park opens around 9 a.m.; arriving early and doing the Safari Park first, before the heat builds, means livelier animals and cooler air. The Marine Park side involves a lot of walking, so bring hats, sunscreen, water and some cash for giraffe feed. Driving your own car through the safari zone is more flexible than waiting for the bus. Seeing the whole park takes about 5–6 hours, so pace it with breaks and somewhere for little ones to sit down.
Know before you go
- Opening hours — open daily, from around 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m. (some zones close a little later at the weekend). Come in the morning to fit both sides in, and check the park's website for the latest hours before you go.
- Approximate fees — a combined Safari Park + Marine Park ticket for foreign visitors is around 780–1,130 THB depending on the package (whether lunch or transfers are included); the Thai rate is lower, and children under 100 cm tall enter free. Feed for the Giraffe Terrace costs a little extra. Prices are approximate and can change, so compare on a booking site or the official site first.
- Getting there — it's in the Ramindra area of northeastern Bangkok, with no direct BTS/MRT link. The easiest way is to drive or take a Grab/taxi — about 30–45 minutes from central Bangkok depending on traffic. Many tours bundle a transfer with the ticket.
- Suitable ages — it works for all ages; little ones love the drive-through and feeding giraffes, but the Marine Park involves long walks in the sun, so bring a stroller or plan rest stops for young children, and supervise closely around animal feeding.
Safety, value and the animal question
On safety, keep your windows up through the predator zone, don't get out of the car, keep hands inside, and follow the signs and staff closely. On value and the animal question, the parts many families appreciate are driving through the open enclosures where animals roam wide spaces, and the Giraffe Terrace — watching animals rather than making them perform. That said, Safari World runs several performing-animal shows, including an orangutan boxing show, dolphin and sea-lion shows, and paid photo-posing with tigers or performing elephants — practices that international animal-welfare groups such as PETA and WFFT have criticised for years, and the park was central to an orangutan-smuggling case in 2004. So we don't recommend the animal-trick shows, posing with tigers or elephant rides. We'd suggest focusing on the drive-through safari and the Giraffe Terrace, and leaving the animal shows to each family's own judgement.
