Sukhumvit Half-Day Plan
Thonglor, Ekkamai, Benjakitti, EmQuartier

This plan is built for anyone with half a day in Sukhumvit who wants house-roasted Thai coffee in Thonglor, a noodle shop that's kept the same stew pot simmering for decades, a Michelin-listed crab fried rice lunch, a forest park with an elevated skywalk, and a free rooftop garden to close it out. The route runs from Thonglor-Ekkamai down to the Asok-Phrom Phong end, all sitting on the same Sukhumvit BTS line. It suits anyone staying nearby, food-focused visitors chasing Michelin picks, or anyone who wants a stretch of green space to rest their eyes between malls.

Sukhumvit Half-Day Plan Thonglor, Ekkamai, Benjakitti, EmQuartier

🔄 Updated 10 Aug 2026

Sukhumvit runs so long that picking the right stretch matters if you only have half a day. This plan starts in Thonglor and works down into Ekkamai, where the best spots sit within walking distance of each other, then takes the BTS over to the Asok-Phrom Phong end, home to both a forest park and the EM District malls. Here's a route we've actually mapped out — starting with morning coffee at theCOMMONS, moving through an old-school stewed-beef noodle shop, a crab fried rice lunch people queue for all day, a skywalk over a wetland at Benjakitti, and finishing at EmQuartier's free 5th-floor rooftop garden. Every stop here is a real place people in this neighborhood recommend to each other.

Suggested route

Half-day

Morning to afternoon — Thonglor coffee, Wattana Panich, HERE HAI, Benjakitti, EmQuartier, Sarnies

09:30
Morning coffee at Roots (theCOMMONS Thonglor)Start the day at Roots, a Thai coffee roastery inside theCOMMONS on Thonglor Soi 17. Order the single-origin Thai espresso or the Cold Brew, the house top pick. It's a short walk from BTS Thong Lo into the soi. Open daily 08:00-17:00.
10:30
Stop by Wattana Panich, an old-school Ekkamai shopWalk or take a short motorbike-taxi ride to Ekkamai (Sukhumvit 63) and stop at Wattana Panich, a stewed-beef noodle shop that's kept a giant stockpot simmering out front for decades. Order a small bowl of the stewed beef broth to share before your proper lunch later. It's open 10:00-19:00, closed on the last Monday of the month.
12:00
Lunch at HERE HAI (เฮียให้)Continue on foot through Ekkamai to HERE HAI, the shop credited with originating crab fried rice piled with whole crab meat, where people line up well before opening. Order the signature crab fried rice, or a crab omelet if you want something that comes out of the wok faster. Cash only, no reservations. Open 10:00-15:00 and 16:00-17:30, closed Mondays.
13:30
Walk the skywalk at Benjakitti Forest ParkTake the BTS from Ekkamai to Asok, or the MRT to Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station, and walk into Benjakitti Forest Park. Walk the roughly 1.6-kilometer elevated skywalk over the wetland. The afternoon sun is fairly strong up there with little shade, so bring water. Free entry, open daily 05:00-21:00.
14:45
The Quartier Water Garden rooftopWalk or take the BTS one stop from Asok to Phrom Phong, then head up to the Quartier Water Garden on EmQuartier's 5th floor, a tropical rooftop garden that's free to enter, looking out over Benjasiri Park and the skyline. Wander and take a few photos before the last stop. The mall is open daily 10:00-22:00.
15:30
Close out at Sarnies SukhumvitFinish at Sarnies' Sukhumvit 37 branch, a Japanese-themed cafe in a quiet soi beside EmQuartier, just a 3-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong. Order the house-roasted Sarnies Roastery coffee or a Thai Coconut Latte and rest your feet before heading out. Open daily 07:00-22:30.

A timing trick so the day lines up

HERE HAI is closed every Monday, and Wattana Panich only closes on the last Monday of the month — avoid Mondays altogether if you want to hit both. As for Benjakitti, the afternoon sun is strong with little shade on the skywalk; if you'd rather have soft light, push the whole plan back an hour and make Benjakitti your last stop close to sunset instead. Getting around is simple — the Sukhumvit BTS line runs in a straight shot from Thong Lo-Ekkamai through Phrom Phong to Asok, with no line changes needed.

Adjust the plan to your time and style

Sukhumvit is a long line of cafes, old shops, a city forest park and malls strung along the BTS Sukhumvit Line. This plan runs from Thonglor inward — adjust it to your time.

  • Only three hours: keep Wattana Panich in Ekkamai → HERE HAI → Benjakitti Forest Park. Old-school food and a city park within a few BTS stops.
  • Here for nature: give Benjakitti Forest Park more time — a city forest with a skywalk over the lake and the Sukhumvit skyline behind it, great for an evening walk or photos.
  • Here for food: Ekkamai-Thonglor is thick with old and new places. Give Wattana Panich and HERE HAI more time, and allow for their midday queues.
  • With kids: lean on EmQuartier and the Quartier Water Garden for air conditioning and space, and cut the long-queue noodle stops.

💡 Know before you go: Sukhumvit

🚇
One BTS line the whole way

The BTS Sukhumvit Line links Thonglor, Ekkamai, Phrom Phong and Asok within a few stops. Benjakitti Forest Park is reachable from MRT QSNCC or BTS Asok.

💸
Budget per person

Around 700-1,400 baht. Old shops like Wattana Panich and HERE HAI run in the low hundreds; cafes and malls are the pricier options. Benjakitti Forest Park is free.

🕐
Allow for the queues

HERE HAI and Wattana Panich queue longest from noon to 1pm. Go before 11:30am or after 1pm to wait far less.

☔
If it rains

EmQuartier and the mall restaurants are the indoor fallback. The Benjakitti skywalk is open-air and best postponed in heavy rain.

FAQ

Where's the best place to start this Sukhumvit half-day plan?

Start at theCOMMONS in Thonglor, near BTS Thong Lo — it's the most convenient spot since Ekkamai's stewed-beef noodles and crab fried rice follow in a straight line before you take the BTS to Benjakitti Forest Park and EmQuartier.

Are there any days I should avoid?

Avoid Mondays if you want to eat at HERE HAI, since it's closed every Monday. Wattana Panich only closes on the last Monday of the month, so check the calendar before you head out to be safe.

Can I do this plan on foot without taking taxis often?

The Thonglor-Ekkamai stretch is comfortably walkable since the shops sit close together. The distance from Ekkamai to Benjakitti Forest Park is too far to walk, though — take the Sukhumvit BTS line for a few stops, no line changes needed.

Is Benjakitti Forest Park free, and how do I walk it?

It is free — a city forest park with a skywalk and elevated paths over the lake. There are several entrances, from MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and from the old Benjakitti Park side, and it is best in the gentler morning and evening light.

Does this plan cover Thonglor and Ekkamai too?

Yes. It starts at theCOMMONS Thonglor and Wattana Panich in Ekkamai before working inward via Benjakitti and Phrom Phong, all on the single BTS Sukhumvit Line.
