Cafes + Old Town
Suphan Buri 2 Days 1 Night

Suphan Buri is only about two hours from Bangkok, but the pace of the town is a lot slower — perfect if you want to hit a few cafes in the morning and then wander the old riverside markets along the Tha Chin without rushing. This plan covers two days and one night: day one stays in town, day two heads up toward Sam Chuk and Kao Hong to eat, take photos, and roll back into the city by early evening.

Cafes + Old Town Suphan Buri 2 Days 1 Night

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

The charm of Suphan is that everything sits close together. In town, it's only a few minutes' drive from a cafe to a temple to the tower, while the old markets like Sam Chuk and Kao Hong are north of the city along Route 340, roughly a 30–40 minute drive. We've laid this plan out so you're not worn down by walking, with real time to actually sit in a cafe rather than just stopping for a photo and moving on. If you're visiting on a Saturday or Sunday, check each shop's closing day first, since a lot of the in-town cafes are closed on Mondays.

Day 1 — In-Town Cafes + Old Town Walk

Day 1

Suphan Buri Town

09:30
Start the morning at No.5 Cafe SuphanburiA cafe in the Khong U Ya bend on Malaiman Road with a chic vibe — coffee, desserts, and one-plate meals all in one place. Opens at 07:30, so it's an easy, low-key way to start the day (closed Mondays).
11:00
Pay respects to Luang Pho To at Wat Pa Lelai WorawihanThe town's signature temple, deeply revered by locals. There are murals telling the Khun Chang–Khun Phaen story and an old Thai-style Khun Chang house to walk through. Plan for about an hour.
12:30
Lunch in townSuphan is known for fish noodle soup and boat noodles. You'll easily find a shop around the Sapsin market area or in the center of town.
14:00
Go up Banharn–Jamsai TowerA tower in the middle of town on Nang Phim Road, 123 metres tall, with a viewing deck that looks out over the city in every direction. The Chaloem Phatra Rachini park sits at the base if you want to keep strolling.
15:30
Afternoon coffee at Sukh CafeA small shop on Nang Phim Road in the center of town with easy-on-the-wallet drinks — a good place to rest your legs after a full day of walking.
18:00
Check in to your in-town stay + dinnerStaying in the town center makes it easy to head out for food in the evening. Suphan has both Isan restaurants and moo kratha (DIY grilled pork) to choose from.

About opening hours

Most cafes in Suphan town open late and close around 17:00–18:00. If you want to hit several in one day, start before noon — don't leave it to the afternoon, because many close early, and some are shut on Mondays.

Day 2 — Old Markets Along the Tha Chin River

Day 2

Sam Chuk–Kao Hong

09:00
Leave town heading for Sam ChukDrive north along Route 340 for about 30–40 minutes. Get to the market in the morning before it gets too hot — there's parking near the market.
09:45
Walk the century-old Sam Chuk MarketAn old wooden market on the Tha Chin River, open 08:00–17:00, with the Khun Chamnong Chinarak House museum and food like old-style coffee, noodles, and Thai sweets. You can happily wander from Soi 1 through Soi 4.
12:00
Lunch in the marketTry the local specialties like five-spice braised duck, noodles, or rice steamed in lotus leaf. Graze your way along instead of sitting down at just one shop.
13:30
Stop by Kao Hong MarketAnother old market on the Tha Chin, in Bang Pla Ma district, with an old bandit watchtower and traditional Thai sweets like chan ap and Chinese-style pastries. It's quieter than Sam Chuk and good for photos.
15:30
Head back to town, stop at a cafe to wrap up the tripOn the way back there are several cafes set among rice fields and along the water. Pick one to sit at before driving back to Bangkok in the evening.

If you've got time to spare on day two, or want to tack on another half-day, the Si Prachan side has another small old market sitting right on the town–Sam Chuk route, so you can stop in without going out of your way. And if you're more into nature than markets, Bueng Chawak Chaloem Phra Kiat is over in Doembang Nangbuat district — a bit further to drive, but good for families with kids.

In-Town Cafes You Can Cover in a Day

If you're a serious cafe-hopper, Suphan town has enough spots to string together a few in one day. We've picked ones that are in town or not far out, all within a few minutes' drive of each other.

In town

No.5 Cafe Suphanburi

In the Khong U Ya bend on Malaiman Road, with chic decor and photo-friendly corners, plus one-plate meals to eat. Opens 07:30, closed Mondays.

Town center

Sukh Cafe

A small, warm shop on Nang Phim Road in the center of town with friendly drink prices — good for an afternoon rest.

Outskirts

Field-side & riverside cafes on the edge of town

Just outside town there are several cafes with rice-field views and views along the Tha Chin River — good for a long sit in the morning or evening.

What real reviews say

Plenty of people who've been say Suphan cafes are easier on the wallet than the Bangkok side — most drinks run around 50–70 THB — and the shops aren't as packed as in the big cities, so you can comfortably sit and work or chat for a long stretch.

Getting There + Timing Tips

  • A car is by far the easiest — the cafes and markets are spread out and public transport in the province is limited, so driving yourself or renting is far more flexible.
  • From Bangkok — take Route 340 (Bang Bua Thong–Suphan Buri), about 2 hours, which works well for a morning-out-evening-back trip or an overnight stay.
  • Weekdays are quieter — Sam Chuk and Kao Hong get crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. If you want a relaxed walk, go on a weekday, though some of the market shops won't all be open.
  • Allow for cafes closing early — many in-town shops close at 17:00–18:00, so schedule cafes for the morning and afternoon and find a restaurant in town for dinner.

FAQ

How many days is right for a Suphan Buri cafe trip?

Two days and one night is about perfect: day one for in-town cafes and the old town, day two out to Sam Chuk and Kao Hong markets. If you only have a single day, you can still cover everything in town.

What time do Suphan town cafes open?

Most open late, around 08:00–09:00, and close early, around 17:00–18:00, with many shut on Mondays. If you want to hit several, start before noon.

Do you need your own car to visit Suphan Buri?

It's by far the easiest with a car, since the cafes and old markets are spread out and public transport is limited. Without one, you can still get around town by hired car or songthaew, but reaching Sam Chuk and Kao Hong is harder.

How are Sam Chuk and Kao Hong markets different?

Sam Chuk is the busier century-old market on the Tha Chin, with lots of food shops and a museum. Kao Hong is quieter, with an old bandit watchtower and traditional Thai sweets — good for photos and an easy stroll.

When's the best time to visit Suphan?

You can go year-round. The late-rainy-to-early-cool season (November–February) has the most comfortable weather for walking the markets all day, and weekdays are far less crowded than weekends.
