Island hopping means one boat, multiple islands, one day — stopping to snorkel, take photos, and swim in sheltered bays. The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga) is where this works best. The main decision is choosing your route (Phi Phi vs Phang Nga Bay) and the type of boat to match your travel style.
How to choose the right tour
- Want to hit multiple stops and snorkel in clear water → Phi Phi + Maya Bay + Khai Islands route (speedboat)
- Prefer dramatic limestone scenery and kayaking in caves → James Bond Island + Phang Nga Bay route
- Prone to seasickness or traveling with children or elderly → choose a big boat (steadier, less rushed)
- Want quiet with fewer people → take the early morning slot and avoid peak high season
- Budget for a national park fee paid on-site (~400 THB/person for foreigners)

Season & things to know
The Andaman coast is clearest and calmest from Nov–Apr. Monsoon season (May–Oct) brings stronger swells and some tours are cancelled. Maya Bay is open but has visitor caps and timed entry to allow coral recovery — most tours handle the logistics. The national park fee (~400 THB/person for foreigners) is usually paid separately on-site, not included in the tour price. If you want to add scuba diving, see the Thailand diving guide.
💡 Get the most out of your island day
Morning departures mean calmer seas, better light, and fewer people at Maya Bay. Worth the early wake-up.
Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, UV-protection rash guard for snorkeling — the tropical sun is strong on open water.
Speedboats are fast but slam through chop. If you get seasick, choose a big boat and sit midship. Bring motion-sickness tablets.
Have cash ready for the national park fee (~400 THB/person) paid on-site — it's usually separate from your tour price.
