Top picks in Pattaya
Koh Larn (Coral Island)
The island just off Pattaya, under half an hour away by speedboat, with water far clearer than the beaches in town. There are several beaches to pick from — Tawaen is the busiest because it has every water sport going, from parasailing to jet skis and banana boats. For something quieter, head to Samae or Nual. A half-day trip is enough for a swim and lunch; go full-day if you want to linger.
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
A vast botanical garden south of Pattaya. The highlight is the French garden, clipped so precisely it photographs like a postcard. There is also a cactus garden, a model dinosaur valley, and elephant and Thai cultural shows several times a day. The grounds are huge — too big to walk fully in two or three hours — so take the tram tour as well. A strong pick for families and older travellers.
Sanctuary of Truth
An all-wood temple by the sea, carved entirely by hand and still under construction after decades. The building rises as tall as a multi-storey block and is covered in carvings drawn from Buddhist and Hindu thought. Come in the late afternoon, when low light brings out the detail in the wood and the photos look their best. There are Thai dance shows on site, plus horse and carriage rides. Wear comfortable shoes — there is a fair bit of walking.
Alcazar Cabaret Show
A cabaret that has been part of Pattaya since 1981 — a big stage, lavish sets and quick costume changes, with numbers spanning Thai, Korean, Chinese, Indian and international music. The show runs a little over an hour, with several slots through the evening so you can pick a time that suits. Book ahead and collect your ticket at the box office. Front-section seats give a clearer view for a little more.
Art in Paradise
Thailand's first 3D art museum, where the whole point is to step into the picture — leaning out of a shark's mouth, dangling off a cliff, or standing in a Venetian canal. There are over a hundred paintings split across themed zones, and posing your way through takes about an hour and a half to two hours. It is in town and easy to reach, which makes it a good call on a rainy or scorching day when you would rather not be outside. Works well for the whole family.
Pattaya Floating Market (Four Regions)
A large market that recreates Thailand's four regions in one place. You wander wooden walkways over the canals, with each zone — north, northeast, central and south — having its own architecture and food. There are regional snacks, craft souvenirs and cultural shows through the day, plus paddle-boat rides around the market if you want to rest your feet. Late morning to early afternoon is calmer. Good for anyone who likes to stroll and graze.
Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain)
A limestone cliff bearing a giant Buddha image laser-etched and lined with gold, created to honour King Rama IX. It is the largest cliff-carved Buddha there is, visible from a long way off. Around it are broad gardens and a pond that mirrors the mountain. Entry is free. It sits outside town on the way to Sattahip, so people often pair it with Nong Nooch or other nearby stops in one day. Morning or evening keeps the heat down.
Frost Magical Ice of Siam
An indoor sub-zero ice world, with ice carved into castles, caves and characters from Thai legend mixed with international ones. Your ticket comes with a warm overcoat to wear and a drink served in a glass made of ice. There is an ice slide zone and plenty of photo corners, and kids love it. It is out of town near Khao Chi Chan, so save it for a day when you want a break from the heat. An hour or so covers it.
