FAQ

Which Khao Lak beach should I stay on?

Nang Thong is best for a first visit — restaurants, diving and rooms for every budget, easy to get around. For more quiet, head north to Bang Niang or Khuk Khak with upscale resorts and calmer sand. Khao Lak is about relaxing at your resort, with none of Phuket’s nightlife.

Can I do Similan tours from Khao Lak?

Yes — Khao Lak is the main launch point for the Similan and Surin Islands, with day speedboat tours running roughly mid-October to mid-May (the park closes in the monsoon). Book ahead in high season; staying around Nang Thong or Bang Niang makes pickups easy.

Is Khao Lak good for families?

Very much so — long beaches, gentle surf in high season and many resorts with pools and kids’ activities. It is quieter and calmer than the busy resort towns, good for young children and older travelers on a longer stay.
