Where to stay in Satun

🔄 Updated 20 Jun 2026

Short answer: Satun is the gateway to Koh Lipe and Koh Tarutao, and most people stay just one night before the boat. Basing near Pak Bara pier is easiest for early ferries; Satun town has in-town dining and hotels but sits further from the pier. With time, it is worth crossing to stay on Koh Lipe itself for the best of the beaches.

FAQ

Where to stay in Satun before Koh Lipe?

If your boat leaves Pak Bara early, staying near Pak Bara pier is most convenient, with budget guesthouses within walking distance. Satun town is about 50 km away, better if you arrive earlier and want to eat in town.

Is Koh Lipe open year-round?

Boats from Pak Bara to Koh Lipe run all year, but in the monsoon (May–October) seas are rougher and sailings fewer, so check the weather and book ahead. The clearest water and best beaches are in high season, November–April.

Koh Tarutao vs Koh Lipe?

Tarutao is a large national-park island with raw nature and park bungalows or tents, suited to campers, while Koh Lipe is smaller with resorts, restaurants and a walking street — livelier with gorgeous beaches. Most people choose Lipe.
