Where to stay in Trat

🔄 Updated 20 Jun 2026

Short answer: Trat is mostly a stop on the way to Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Mak. To sleep on the mainland before the boat, stay in Trat town — a small, genuinely Thai town with a night market and cheap guesthouses; closer to sailing time, base near the piers (Laem Ngop / Laem Sok). With time, it is best to cross and stay on the islands.

FAQ

Do I need to overnight in Trat before Koh Chang?

Usually not — boats to Koh Chang run often and you can cross the same day. But if you land late or are heading to Koh Kood or Koh Mak, which have fewer sailings, a night in Trat or near the pier before an early boat is easier.

Which pier for which island?

Koh Chang boats leave from Ao Thammachat/Centerpoint, Koh Mak mainly from Laem Ngop, and Koh Kood mainly from Laem Sok. Check schedules with your island hotel ahead, as sailings and piers change with the season.

Is there anything to do in Trat town?

Trat is an easy little town with an old wooden-house quarter, a night market, temples and cheap food — pleasant for an evening stroll before the islands. It is not a heavy tourist town, but you see genuine local life at low cost.
