Bang Khen is genuine northern Bangkok, not a tourist strip, and its main draw is logistics. The BTS Green line now runs all the way out to Wat Phra Si Mahathat and Royal Thai Air Force stations, so you can ride straight into Siam or Asok without changing lines. Room rates here are clearly cheaper than the city centre, and Don Mueang Airport is only a ten-to-fifteen-minute drive away. Most people who stay choose it for an early flight, a tight budget, a campus visit around Phranakhon Rajabhat or Kasetsart, or simply for a bigger room at a lower price in exchange for being a little out of the centre. Around you are local markets like Ying Charoen, small malls, student canteens and 7-Elevens on every corner, so cheap food is easy to find.
