Bang Sue–Pradiphat has changed a lot since Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (most people still call it Bang Sue Grand Station) opened. Long-distance trains and the SRT Red Line now run from here instead of Hua Lamphong, so it's where you start or end a rail trip to Chiang Mai, Nong Khai, or Hua Hin. Next to it are the Bang Sue and Tao Poon MRT stations, where you change between the Blue and Purple lines, plus Pradiphat Road with its run of local restaurants and cheap eats. Worth knowing: there still aren't many hotels right inside the terminal building, so most stays are spread around Pradiphat, Tao Poon, and Bang Sue, a short taxi or MRT hop from the station. In return you pay less than in the central areas. It's a good base for rail travellers, budget-minded visitors, and anyone who wants a quiet night in a genuinely local neighbourhood and is happy to ride the train into Chatuchak or the inner city.
