Talat Phlu and Wongwian Yai make up a stretch of Thonburi along Somdet Phra Chao Taksin and Krung Thonburi roads, served by two Silom-line BTS stations, Wongwian Yai and Talat Phlu. From here you cross the river into Sathorn, Silom, and Siam in a handful of stops without sitting in traffic. Most people who stay here are watching their budget and don't want Sukhumvit prices, or they prefer a real residential neighbourhood over a tourist zone. The headline draw is Talat Phlu, an old street-food market that fills up from late afternoon into the evening, with Thai-Chinese chive cakes, khanom buang, fried oyster omelettes, and shophouse stalls that have run for decades. Around it sit Wat Intharam and Chinese shrines that reflect the Thai-Chinese roots of the Thonburi side. Stays are mostly three-star hotels, guesthouses, and daily-rate apartments, many within a five-minute walk of a station. Two things to know: the sois here are narrow and some places sit deep inside, so you walk out to the main road, and there's no big mall in the area, so for shopping you take the BTS to ICONSIAM or Sathorn.
