Ban Krut and Bang Saphan sit at the far southern end of the province, about 1.5–2 hours south of Prachuap town and roughly 2.5–3 hours from Hua Hin. The sights are spread out in a long line along the coast, from Ban Krut Beach to Wat Thang Sai up on Khao Thong Chai, Mae Rampheung Beach in the Bang Saphan area, all the way down to the Koh Talu pier at Bang Saphan Noi. That's why this plan has you sleeping near Ban Krut for both nights and then driving south for day trips, so you don't have to pack up and switch hotels all the time.
Check the Koh Talu boat day first
Most Koh Talu boats run as a morning One Day Trip (boarding around 08:30, back ashore a little after noon) and need to be booked ahead. The sea is calmest and clearest roughly from February to May; during the monsoon the boats may not run at all. Call the operator to check before you lock in your travel dates, and schedule the Koh Talu day for the best-weather day of your trip.

- A car — public transport is scarce here and the sights are spread out, so driving your own or renting is by far the easiest way around
- Book the Koh Talu boat ahead — boats only run in the morning and slots are limited, so always call to book and confirm a good-weather day
- Water gear — swimwear, a sun shirt, reef-safe sunscreen, and a waterproof case for your phone
- Sun and water — both the beaches and the boat are fully exposed, so bring a hat, sunglasses and drinking water
- Cash — boat fares, local seafood places and many markets here mainly take cash
How to plan your days so the boat actually runs
The sea around Koh Talu is calmest from February to May. If you come at another time, set aside the Koh Talu day for whichever day the forecast looks best on your trip, and keep a backup plan on the mainland (Wat Thang Sai, Mae Rampheung Beach) in case the boat is cancelled at the last minute, so you don't waste the trip.
