A big livestock farm in Pak Chong where you book a Farm Tour, ride a tram across the pastures, watch the cowboy show, try milking a cow, bottle-feed the lambs and finish with the farm's fresh milk ice cream — fun for toddlers and older kids alike. The tour runs about 2–3 hours, entry is roughly a few hundred baht for adults and less for kids, and you should book ahead as slots fill fast on weekends; wear comfy shoes and take a morning slot to beat the heat.
Scenical World, Khao Yai (Nakhon Ratchasima)
A water park and amusement park set against the Khao Yai mountains, with slides, a kids' pool, rides and a tall viewing tower — great for children who love the water and families wanting a full day out. Entry is roughly a few hundred baht per person; pack swimwear, towels and sunscreen, and keep little ones in the shallow pool zone with an adult close by.
Sheep Land, Khao Yai (Nakhon Ratchasima)
A European-themed sheep farm where kids can walk up and feed sheep, rabbits and small animals, with windmill photo corners, colourful cottages, a playground and gentle rides — perfect for preschoolers. Entry is roughly a hundred-odd baht with feed cups a few tens of baht extra; show your child how to offer food slowly and not to panic when the sheep come close, and go in the late afternoon when the light softens.
Pak Chong & Khao Yai farms roundup (Nakhon Ratchasima)
A one-page roundup of the farms worth visiting around Pak Chong and Khao Yai — Chokchai Farm, the sheep farm and the vineyards — handy for planning which ones to take the kids to on a single trip. It suits families driving themselves, since the farms are spread along Thanarat Road; two or three a day is about right, leaving time for breaks and lunch so the kids don't get worn out.
Korat Petrified Wood Museum (Nakhon Ratchasima)
A petrified-wood and fossil museum just outside Korat city, with million-year-old stone tree trunks, ancient elephant fossils and dinosaurs that delight kids fascinated by the prehistoric world. Admission is cheap — a few tens to just over a hundred baht — the halls are cool and indoors, it suits primary-age kids who can start reading the labels, and an hour or two covers it.
Korat Zoo (Nakhon Ratchasima)
Korat's big open zoo spreads over a wide area, with a tram that loops past a variety of animals — giraffes, zebras and a safari zone — an easy day out for the whole family. Entry is roughly a hundred-odd baht for adults and less for kids; go in the morning when the animals are active, bring a hat, water and an umbrella since parts are out in the sun, and the giraffe-feeding spot is a kids' favourite.
Phu Wiang Dinosaur Museum (Khon Kaen)
A dinosaur museum in Wiang Kao district, at the site where some of Thailand's first dinosaur fossils were found, with replica skeletons, a real excavation pit and walking trails through the Phu Wiang forest — dino-mad kids love it. Admission is cheap, a few tens to just over a hundred baht; it's about 1.5 hours from Khon Kaen city so you'll want your own car, and it's best to do the outdoor walking in the cooler morning and carry plenty of water.
Khon Kaen Science Park (Khon Kaen)
A science-themed stop in Khon Kaen city, good for kids who love asking questions and trying hands-on things while they learn — a solid indoor option when it rains or the sun is fierce. It's worth checking the opening days and what's on before you go, as parts of it host rotating events and exhibitions, and it pairs easily with other in-town sights on the same day.
Kalasin Dinosaur Trail, Sahatsakhan (Kalasin)
Kalasin's dinosaur route gathered on one page — the Sirindhorn Museum and the Phu Kum Khao excavation pit in Sahatsakhan district — for planning a full day of dinosaurs with the kids. The two main stops sit right next to each other within walking distance, so set aside half a day to a full day, grab lunch nearby and carry on; it's perfect for children who've watched dinosaur documentaries and want to see the real thing.
Phu Kum Khao Excavation Pit (Kalasin)
An excavation pit where hundreds of real dinosaur bones lie embedded in the rock layers, letting kids see with their own eyes what bones in the ground actually look like, under a covered hall beside the Sirindhorn Museum. It's an easy flat walk with no climbing, admission is cheap and often combined with the museum, it suits all ages — and telling your child these are real, not replicas, makes it all the more exciting.
Sirindhorn Museum (Kalasin)
Kalasin's large dinosaur museum has full dinosaur skeletons, fossils and interactive exhibits kids can press and play with to learn, all in cool, comfortable indoor halls you can wander for a while. Entry is cheap — tens of baht for Thais, with small children often free or nearly so — allow around two hours, and it's a great indoor option on both rainy and blazing-hot days.
Nong Khai Aquarium (Nong Khai)
The Nong Khai aquarium on Khon Kaen University's Nong Khai campus has a glass tunnel you walk through to watch the fish and big Mekong river species, and kids love it when the fish-feeding show is on. It's air-conditioned and comfortable indoors — ideal on a rainy or scorching day — entry is roughly a hundred-odd baht for adults and less for kids, and it's worth checking the show times before you go so you don't miss them.
