Krabi Town & Cafe Plan
Cafes · Walking Street · Khao Khanab Nam

Not everyone who comes to Krabi wants to board a boat for the islands at dawn. Some people would rather sleep in, settle into a chilled-out cafe, wander the old town, and end the day at the Walking Street with views of Khao Khanab Nam along the Krabi River. This plan does exactly that — two full days centered on Krabi Town, with short walks and short rides, no battling the wind and waves at sea.

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Krabi Town is smaller than many people expect. Walking from Chao Fah Pier to the Maharaj Road area takes under 15 minutes. The good cafes cluster around Maharaj Road and its side sois, while the evening food and market atmosphere happens at the Walking Street, which only opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. If you're coming for a town-focused trip like this, plan your visit to overlap a weekend so you catch the Walking Street.

Who this plan is for

  • People who aren't into sea activities — prone to motion or seasickness, or just want a break from harsh sun
  • Cafe and photo lovers — Krabi has plenty of new in-town cafes, nicely decorated, good for working too
  • People short on time — land in the afternoon, or fly out the next morning, and you can still do the town properly
  • Families with older travelers — short walks, easy rest stops, no climbing into boats to reach islands

Timing the key day

Krabi Walking Street only opens Friday–Saturday–Sunday evenings (roughly 5:00–10:00 PM). Come on a weekday and you'll miss it. Line up your Walking Street night with a day you're in town. Khao Khanab Nam, on the other hand, works any day.

Day 1 — Old-town cafes, ending with Khao Khanab Nam in the evening

Day 1

Sleep in, walk the town, sit in a cafe, finish by the river

09:30
Breakfast at Much Mellow (Soi Maharaj 2)A minimalist wood-toned cafe known for its house-baked croissants and homemade bakery, with vegan options too. Coffee and bakery runs about THB 120–200 per person. There's a hostel upstairs — quiet and comfortable to linger.
11:00
Stroll the Maharaj Road area and old townLook at the old shophouses, souvenir shops, and the black-crab statue at the roundabout — the town's symbol. Easy photo walking, all close together.
12:30
Lunch — Southern curry-over-rice in townSouthern-style curry-rice shops around Maharaj Road are cheap, about THB 50–70 a plate, with bold, properly Southern flavors. Tell them if you don't want it spicy.
14:00
Cafe time to work or escape the heat at Urban café x workspace (K-Avenue, Maharaj Road)A two-floor loft cafe in black tones with good coffee, open 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, with power outlets so you can work. Plenty of drinks and cakes to choose from.
16:30
Longtail boat to Khao Khanab Nam from Chao Fah PierA round-trip charter runs about THB 300–500 per boat (negotiable, seats roughly 6–10 people). The ride out takes about 15 minutes. Two limestone peaks flank the river — soft late-afternoon light makes for great photos.
18:00
Walk the riverside embankment in front of town (the black-crab plaza)A riverside plaza in front of Chao Fah Pier with a cool breeze, where locals come to exercise. Stroll, catch the wind, and take in Khao Khanab Nam across the water for free.
19:00
Seafood dinner in townIn-town seafood restaurants are friendlier on price than the Ao Nang side. Order fresh prawns, crab, and squid — about THB 250–400 per person and you'll be full.

About the Khao Khanab Nam boat

Charter prices aren't fixed on any sign. Sort it out clearly with the boatman at Chao Fah Pier before you board — whether it includes landing on the islet, stopping for the cave walk, or just a loop. If you want to climb up and walk the cave, allow extra time and tell the driver in advance.

Day 2 — Nice-atmosphere cafes, closing out at the Walking Street

Day 2

Morning cafe, souvenirs, then eat your way through the Walking Street at night

09:00
Breakfast — roti and tea in townKrabi has a large Muslim community, and roti–pulled-tea shops open early. Banana-egg roti with hot tea is a light fill at about THB 40–60.
10:30

14:30
Souvenir shopping on Maharaj RoadCashew nuts, shrimp-paste chili dip, and Khlong Thom shrimp paste — take your pick at the in-town souvenir shops, cheaper than buying at the airport.
16:00
Back to the hotel, save energy for the eveningYou've walked all day — head back to rest and shower, saving some energy for a long walk through the Walking Street tonight.
17:30

In Krabi Town · bakery–coffee

An upscale-feeling cafe and patisserie that's genuinely affordable. Homemade bakery, good coffee, great for a relaxed sit, photos, and a light bite.

4

Weasel Coffee (civet coffee)

In Krabi Town · coffee-focused

An in-town coffee shop with several photo spots, leading with a distinctive civet coffee. Both savory and sweet menus — worth trying as an experience.

Distinctive coffeePhoto spots

All four are in or near the town center — reachable by motorbike taxi or on foot. If you want a cafe with a sea view or out in nature, you'll have to drive out toward Ao Nam Mao–Ao Nang, which strays a little from the "town" theme. Save that for a day you feel like heading out of town.

Getting around Krabi Town

  • On foot — the Maharaj Road area, Chao Fah Pier, and the Walking Street are all within walking distance of each other, which suits this plan best
  • Motorbike taxi — easy to flag down in town and handy for cafes a bit further out
  • Renting a motorbike — about THB 200–300 a day, the most flexible if you want to hit several cafes
  • Taxi/Grab — available but not as dense as in big cities; for short in-town trips a motorbike taxi is faster

Pick a hotel that fits the theme

For a town-focused trip, stay in Krabi Town itself, not the Ao Nang side. You'll be within walking distance of the cafes, the Walking Street, and the pier, saving both money and time on transport.

FAQ

What days is Krabi Walking Street open?

It opens only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, roughly 5:00–10:00 PM, on Maharaj Road Soi 8 near Vogue mall in central Krabi. Come on a weekday and you'll miss it, so plan your trip to line up a Walking Street night with a day you're in town.

Where do you catch the boat to Khao Khanab Nam, and how much is it?

Take a longtail boat from Chao Fah Pier in Krabi Town; it's about a 15-minute ride out. A round-trip charter runs roughly THB 300–500 per boat (negotiable, seats several people). There's no fixed-price sign, so agree clearly with the boatman before boarding.

I'm in Krabi but don't want to do the islands — what is there to do?

A town-focused trip works easily: stroll the Maharaj Road old town, sit in in-town cafes, take an evening boat to Khao Khanab Nam, and walk the Walking Street on the weekend. You can fill a full two days without ever heading out to sea.

Are there cafes in Krabi Town where you can work?

Yes — for example, Urban café x workspace at K-Avenue on Maharaj Road, a two-floor loft with power outlets, open 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, and Much Mellow in Soi Maharaj 2, which is quiet enough to settle in for a while.

How many days should I spend in Krabi if I'm only doing the town?

Two days and one night is just right. The first day focuses on cafes and Khao Khanab Nam; the second is a morning cafe, souvenir shopping, then the Walking Street in the evening. If you have more time, add an island trip or a day at Ao Nang.
