Krabi Town is smaller than many people expect. Walking from Chao Fah Pier to the Maharaj Road area takes under 15 minutes. The good cafes cluster around Maharaj Road and its side sois, while the evening food and market atmosphere happens at the Walking Street, which only opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. If you're coming for a town-focused trip like this, plan your visit to overlap a weekend so you catch the Walking Street.
Who this plan is for
- People who aren't into sea activities — prone to motion or seasickness, or just want a break from harsh sun
- Cafe and photo lovers — Krabi has plenty of new in-town cafes, nicely decorated, good for working too
- People short on time — land in the afternoon, or fly out the next morning, and you can still do the town properly
- Families with older travelers — short walks, easy rest stops, no climbing into boats to reach islands
Timing the key day
Krabi Walking Street only opens Friday–Saturday–Sunday evenings (roughly 5:00–10:00 PM). Come on a weekday and you'll miss it. Line up your Walking Street night with a day you're in town. Khao Khanab Nam, on the other hand, works any day.
Book the activities in your Krabi trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 1 — Old-town cafes, ending with Khao Khanab Nam in the evening
Sleep in, walk the town, sit in a cafe, finish by the river
About the Khao Khanab Nam boat
Charter prices aren't fixed on any sign. Sort it out clearly with the boatman at Chao Fah Pier before you board — whether it includes landing on the islet, stopping for the cave walk, or just a loop. If you want to climb up and walk the cave, allow extra time and tell the driver in advance.
Day 2 — Nice-atmosphere cafes, closing out at the Walking Street
Morning cafe, souvenirs, then eat your way through the Walking Street at night
Our pick of in-town cafes
Much Mellow
A minimalist wood-toned cafe in Soi Maharaj 2. The draw is its house-baked croissants and homemade bakery, with vegan options. Quiet enough to linger, with a hostel upstairs.
Urban café x workspace
A two-floor black-toned loft cafe in K-Avenue on Maharaj Road, right in town. Power outlets for working, good coffee, and plenty of drinks and cakes.
EP's Cafe Patisserie
An upscale-feeling cafe and patisserie that's genuinely affordable. Homemade bakery, good coffee, great for a relaxed sit, photos, and a light bite.
Weasel Coffee (civet coffee)
An in-town coffee shop with several photo spots, leading with a distinctive civet coffee. Both savory and sweet menus — worth trying as an experience.
All four are in or near the town center — reachable by motorbike taxi or on foot. If you want a cafe with a sea view or out in nature, you'll have to drive out toward Ao Nam Mao–Ao Nang, which strays a little from the "town" theme. Save that for a day you feel like heading out of town.
Getting around Krabi Town
- On foot — the Maharaj Road area, Chao Fah Pier, and the Walking Street are all within walking distance of each other, which suits this plan best
- Motorbike taxi — easy to flag down in town and handy for cafes a bit further out
- Renting a motorbike — about THB 200–300 a day, the most flexible if you want to hit several cafes
- Taxi/Grab — available but not as dense as in big cities; for short in-town trips a motorbike taxi is faster
Pick a hotel that fits the theme
For a town-focused trip, stay in Krabi Town itself, not the Ao Nang side. You'll be within walking distance of the cafes, the Walking Street, and the pier, saving both money and time on transport.
