A Half-Day in Lat Phrao
You can cover both sides of Lat Phrao in half a day if you sequence it right. This route starts with coffee at a slow-bar cafe near Ha Yaek Lat Phrao, walks the skywalk for a view, ducks into Central Ladprao for some air-con, hops the Yellow Line over to Chok Chai 4 for roast duck at a 40-year-old restaurant, strolls the day market, stops at a wooden-house cafe to rest your feet, and finishes with dinner at an old-school braised-duck shop in Wang Hin.

This half-day route suits anyone who only has one window of time in Lat Phrao but wants both sides of it — the train-connected Ha Yaek Lat Phrao stretch and Chok Chai 4, the neighbourhood's real food street. It opens with slow-bar coffee near Ha Yaek Lat Phrao, a walk across the skywalk, a stop at Central Ladprao, then the Yellow Line over to Chok Chai 4 for roast duck at an old-school restaurant, a stroll through the day market, a break at a wooden-house cafe, and dinner at a long-running braised-duck shop in Wang Hin. Unhurried, it wraps up in about six hours.
The route
Half day
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. — from Ha Yaek Lat Phrao over to Chok Chai 4
09:30
First coffee: Blackhills BKKStart at Blackhills BKK, a small slow-bar cafe on Soi Lat Phrao 1, Yaek 2, walkable from MRT Phahon Yothin Exit 5. The owner used to be a food stylist and fitted the place out in a Japanese-Scandinavian minimalist style with a record player playing softly. Order the hand-brewed Drip or Syphon coffee, about 250 baht a cup, brewed right in front of you, or the Black Honey Lemon for 160 baht if coffee's not your thing. Open 08:00-17:00, closed Tuesdays — come early and you'll get a quiet seat before it fills up.
10:15
Walk the Ha Yaek Lat Phrao SkywalkWalk out of the soi onto the Ha Yaek Lat Phrao Skywalk, an elevated walkway about 300 metres long linking BTS Ha Yaek Lat Phrao and MRT Phahon Yothin straight into Central Ladprao and Union Mall without touching street level. It's free, open during train hours, and the morning light is still soft. Look down at the traffic swirling through the intersection and grab a few high-angle photos before moving on.
10:45
Stop at Central LadpraoFollow the skywalk into Central Ladprao, the neighbourhood's anchor mall that's been open since 1982. Browse the fashion floors — Uniqlo, Muji, H&M — and cool off in the air-con for a bit. Or cross over to Union Mall instead, an 8-storey youth-fashion mall where most clothing runs in the low hundreds of baht. Open 10:00-22:00, free to walk around.
12:00
Lunch: Tong Peng RestaurantRide the Yellow Line from Ha Yaek Lat Phrao down to Chok Chai 4 station, or grab a taxi for about 15-20 minutes. Lunch at Tong Peng Restaurant, a Cantonese-Teochew restaurant that's been open for more than 40 years. Order the original-recipe crispy-skin roast duck, small size around 200 baht, and the crispy pork at 50 baht a skewer — figure roughly 100-250 baht a head. Open daily 08:30-21:00.
13:30
Wander Chok Chai 4 MarketWalk off lunch at Chok Chai 4 Market, right on Lat Phrao Road near the Chok Chai 4 police station. By day it runs as a busy fresh market where locals shop for dinner ingredients — rows of jok, khao man kai, khao kha moo, and blended-drink stalls to wander past. Come evening the same stretch turns into a full all-night food market.
14:30
Afternoon cafe break: Wood CafeRest your feet at Wood Cafe, a wooden house at the end of Soi Lat Phrao Wang Hin 48 — easy to walk right past, since it's tucked behind a wall of overgrown greenery with barely a sign showing from the soi entrance. Order the Wood Chocolate cake, chewy on a crisp biscuit base, or the lightly sweetened coconut cake. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30-19:00, closed Monday and Tuesday.
16:00
Evening finish: Zong Braised Duck, Wang HinClose out the half day at Zong Braised Duck, Wang Hin, an old-school braised-duck restaurant that's stood at the Wang Hin intersection for more than 30 years. Order the duck rice with rich, well-balanced braising sauce, or the braised eggs that soak up the sauce all the way through — figure 100-250 baht a head. It's open from 09:00 until 4 a.m., so you can settle in for an early dinner here or linger a while before heading home.
Getting between Lat Phrao's two halves
This plan splits into two zones. The morning half sits around Ha Yaek Lat Phrao, where the BTS Green Line meets the MRT Blue Line, while the afternoon half is in Chok Chai 4, reachable on the MRT Yellow Line at Chok Chai 4 station. Getting between the two zones takes about 15-20 minutes whether you ride the train or grab a taxi. Worth knowing: Blackhills BKK is closed on Tuesdays and Wood Cafe is closed Monday and Tuesday — if you're going early in the week, have a backup cafe in mind.
Adjust the plan to your time and style
Lat Phrao is long and its stops follow the road, so this plan runs from the Ha Yaek junction outwards to Chok Chai 4. If time is short, trim from the far end back.
Only three hours: stay around the Ha Yaek junction — Blackhills BKK → the skywalk → Central Ladprao → lunch at Tong Peng. All of it walks from one station.
Here for local food: give Chok Chai 4 Market and the braised duck at Zong in Wang Hin more time. Those two are what locals have eaten here for years. Drop the mall stop instead.
With kids: lean on Central Ladprao and Wood Cafe for air conditioning and easy seating, and skip the afternoon Chok Chai 4 walk where the lanes are narrow and the sun is hard.
Prefer the evening: start at 3pm at Wood Cafe, then do Chok Chai 4 Market and Zong after dark, when the district is at its liveliest.
💡 Know before you go: Lat Phrao
🚇
Two rail lines meet here
Ha Yaek Lat Phrao has both the BTS Sukhumvit Line and the MRT Blue Line at Phahon Yothin, linked by skywalk. For Chok Chai 4, take a motorbike taxi or Grab from MRT Lat Phrao.
💸
Budget per person
Around 500-1,000 baht. Old-school places like Tong Peng and Zong cost far less than mall restaurants, and Chok Chai 4 Market is free to walk.
🕐
Avoid rush hour
Lat Phrao Road jams hard morning and evening on weekdays. If you need to move between stops then, a motorbike taxi beats a car by a wide margin.
☔
If it rains
Central Ladprao is the best fallback and connects straight to the stations. Chok Chai 4 Market is awkward in rain because the walkways are narrow.
Staying overnight in Lat Phrao?
Base yourself near the Ha Yaek Lat Phrao BTS/MRT interchange and you can start this plan first thing without a long commute. Compare Lat Phrao stays across the three big booking sites before you book.
About 6-7 hours, running from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., split between the Ha Yaek Lat Phrao morning and the Chok Chai 4 afternoon. If you want to linger longer over coffee or the market, it's easy to stretch out.
I don't have a full half-day — what can I cut?
If you're short on time, drop Central Ladprao or Chok Chai 4 Market first, since they're bonus wandering stops rather than meals. Keeping just the morning cafe, the Tong Peng lunch, and the closing duck dinner still gives you a real taste of Lat Phrao.
Do I need to book any of these places ahead?
Most don't require a reservation — just walk in. The exception is around lunch and dinner on weekends, when Tong Peng and Zong Braised Duck can get busy, so leave a little extra time for a table if you're going on a Saturday or Sunday.
When should I visit Chok Chai 4 Market and Zong?
Late afternoon into early evening is when the stalls are all open and the atmosphere is best. Go too early and much of the market is still shut. Allow queueing time on weekend evenings.
Is Lat Phrao easy without a car?
Easy around the Ha Yaek junction, which has both BTS and MRT. For Chok Chai 4 and Wang Hin you will need a short motorbike-taxi or Grab hop, usually tens to low hundreds of baht per ride.
