Thailand has long been known for welcoming travelers of every kind. In the main cities and tourist neighborhoods, being LGBTQ+ is barely an issue — hotels, restaurants, and nightlife venues are all welcoming. The big turning point is the Marriage Equality Act, which came into effect on 23 January 2025, allowing same-sex couples to register a legal marriage. Thailand is the first country in Southeast Asia to do so.
