Phuket with Kids
3 Days: Aquarium, Water Park, Shallow Beaches

Taking the kids to Phuket doesn't mean you have to wake up at dawn for a boat trip every day. The island has plenty of things kids genuinely enjoy where parents aren't constantly worrying about safety — an aquarium inside a mall, a water park with a dedicated toddler zone, beaches that slope gently into shallow water, and evening shows that are easy to just sit and watch. We've set this up as a 3-day plan, broken down day by day, with one or two main stops a day so there's room for an afternoon nap and nobody ends up exhausted.

Phuket with Kids 3 Days: Aquarium, Water Park, Shallow Beaches

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

The key to doing Phuket with kids is don't pack the days too tight. Little ones stuck in a car for a long stretch get cranky fast, so we plan one big stop in the morning or afternoon and leave the rest of the day free to head back to the hotel or jump in the pool. Save dinner for an easy walk or a show. The three main stops we picked (Aquaria, Andamanda water park, and a shallow beach) are in different parts of the island, so ordering the days by direction saves a lot of time in the car.

Worth knowing before you plan

Splash Jungle water park at Mai Khao is closed for renovation from 1 Jun–30 Sep 2026 and reopens 1 Oct. During that window, if you want a water park, go to Andamanda instead (open year-round). That's why we've built this plan around Andamanda.

Day 1 — Mall aquarium + an easy Old Town stroll in the evening

Take the first day easy, no sun required. Start at Aquaria Phuket on level B1 of Central Phuket Floresta — nicely air-conditioned, and kids can happily wander the underwater tunnel watching the fish. Same mall, so lunch is right there afterward.

Day 1

Aquaria + Phuket Old Town

10:30
Enter Aquaria Phuket (Central Floresta, level B1)Open 10:30–19:00 · tickets from around ฿450 depending on the package. There's a 40-metre fish tunnel, penguins, otters, jellyfish, and a shark feeding show. Take it easy — about 1.5–2 hours.
12:30
Lunch in Central Floresta mallPlenty of dining options so kids find something easily, then keep strolling the mall to stay out of the afternoon sun.
14:30
Back to the hotel, rest / hit the poolTime for an afternoon nap. The midday sun is strong and not great for keeping kids out long.
17:30
Walk Phuket Old Town (Thalang Road)Colourful Sino-Portuguese shophouses, great for photos. Grab snacks, stop at a café. If it's a Sunday, the Lard Yai walking street has loads of street food.
19:00
Dinner in the Old TownLocal Phuket restaurants plus simpler kid-friendly spots to choose from — no long drive needed.

Day 1 tip

If it rains (especially May–Oct), this day works even better since you're indoors most of the time. Leave room to drop by the Trickeye Museum (Old Town, open 10:00–19:00, adults ฿500, kids ฿250) or the Upside Down House near town — both are fun for kid photos.

Day 2 — A full day at Andamanda water park

Today is all about the water park. Andamanda Phuket sits around Kathu, on the way to Patong, open every day 10:00–19:00 year-round. It has the Andamanda Bay wave pool, the Little Reef toddler area with low, safe slides, and a lazy river for drifting around. We'd give it the whole day to get your money's worth out of the ticket.

Day 2

Andamanda Water Park

10:00
Enter Andamanda water park (Kathu)Adult tickets around ฿1,600, kids/seniors around ฿1,100 (booking through the app is cheaper than at the counter). Book online in advance for a discount.
10:30
Start at the Little Reef kids' zone, then drift the Lazy RiverMornings are quieter and the sun is still gentle — let the kids warm up in the shallow pools first.
12:30
Lunch break inside the parkSeveral food outlets around the park to refuel the kids before the afternoon session.
14:00
Andamanda Bay wave pool + the main poolParents take turns watching the kids. Always put a life jacket on little ones before any deep water.
17:00
Shower, pack up, head back to the hotelLeave before closing so you're not rushed. After a full day in the water, kids usually sleep great in the evening.

What to pack for the water park

Kids' life jackets / arm floats (the park lends some but may run short when it's busy), kids' sunscreen, hats, sun shirts, and towels. There are lockers to rent for your stuff.

Day 3 — Shallow beach in the morning + an evening show

Keep the last day relaxed. Head to a beach with a gentle shallow slope in the morning so the kids can play in the sand and water safely, then close out the trip with an evening show. Picking a beach close to your hotel is the way to go — we'd choose one with calm surf and umbrellas to rent.

Popular

Kata Beach

Gently sloping with calm surf most of the year (the dry season Dec–Apr is best for swimming). Loungers and umbrellas to rent, food nearby — good with kids.

Quiet

Nai Yang Beach

A quiet beach near the airport; the right-hand side shelves gently into shallow water, good for little ones. Pine trees for shade, and a local favourite.

Calm water

Rawai Beach

Very shallow and calm with few crowds, ideal for kids to paddle near the shore. Fresh seafood restaurants right by the beach.

Day 3

Shallow beach + evening show

08:30
Head to the beach (Kata / Nai Yang / Rawai, whichever is near your hotel)The morning sun is gentle and the surf calmer. Rent a lounger and umbrella, play in the sand and shallows — stick to the gently sloping side.
11:30
Back to pack up, shower, lunchSkip the midday sun and rest the kids through the afternoon.
14:00
Hotel / pool, save your energyRoom for a nap, since it'll be a late night.
17:30
Head out for the evening show (Carnival Magic or Phuket FantaSea)Both are in Kamala. Gates open around 17:30 and the main show starts around 20:30. Tickets from around ฿1,600–2,500 depending on seating/buffet. Good for all ages — check the schedule before booking (they perform on alternating days).

Which show, which day

Carnival Magic runs Mon/Wed/Fri, while Phuket FantaSea runs Tue/Sat/Sun. Match it to your trip dates before buying tickets. Little ones may get sleepy during the late show, so bring some snacks and a layer for the air-conditioning.

Rough budget per family (two parents + one child)

  • Aquaria Phuket — around ฿450–700/person (kids cheaper), roughly ฿1,200–1,800 for the family
  • Andamanda water park — adults around ฿1,600, kids around ฿1,100, roughly ฿4,300 total (less if you book via the app/online)
  • Beach — free; lounger and umbrella rental around ฿100–200/set
  • Evening show — from around ฿1,600/person (buffet seats around ฿2,500), roughly ฿4,800+ for the family
  • Car / taxi — Phuket has no good public transport, so renting a car with a child seat or using a ride-hailing app is best; budget around ฿800–1,500 a day

These are approximate prices for early 2026. Ticket prices shift with promotions and high/low season, so check the official websites or booking platforms again before you go — especially opening hours and which days the shows run.

Getting around Phuket with kids

Phuket is a big island with no convenient public transport, and the beaches, malls, and water park are 30–60 minutes apart. Renting a car with a child seat or hiring a driver by the day gives you far better control over timing and your kids' safety than calling a ride for each leg.

FAQ

How many days should you spend in Phuket with young kids?

Three days is about right — you get the aquarium, a water park, and a beach without cramming in so much that the kids burn out. We plan one main stop a day, leaving room for an afternoon rest and a dip in the hotel pool. If you have more time, add an island trip or a full day to just relax.

Which Phuket water park is best for young kids?

Andamanda Phuket in Kathu is the best fit thanks to the Little Reef toddler zone with low slides and shallow pools, and it's open year-round. Splash Jungle at Mai Khao is closed for renovation from 1 Jun–30 Sep 2026, so skip it during that window.

Which beaches in Phuket are shallow and safe for kids?

Kata, Nai Yang, and Rawai all slope gently and have calm surf, making them good for kids to play in the sand and paddle near the shore. The best swimming is in the dry season, December–April; during the monsoon, watch for rough surf and red flags and don't let kids into deep water.

Where's a good evening show to take the kids?

Carnival Magic and Phuket FantaSea, both in Kamala, are big shows suitable for all ages, but they run on alternating days (Carnival Magic Mon/Wed/Fri, FantaSea Tue/Sat/Sun), so check the dates against your trip before buying tickets. The show starts late, around 20:30, so little ones may get sleepy — bring snacks and a warm layer.

What's the easiest way to get around Phuket with kids?

Phuket has no convenient public transport and the stops are 30–60 minutes apart, so renting a car with a child seat or hiring a driver by the day is the way to go — it gives you better control over timing and safety than calling a ride each time, and you won't be stuck hoping for an available car on a late night back from a show.
