Best tours &
activities in Krabi

Krabi sells nature without much dressing up — limestone cliffs rising straight out of the sea, clear water, small islands to hop between, and an emerald pool and natural hot springs tucked inland. Most visitors spend two or three days on boat tours and break them up with one land day. We picked eight experiences that people genuinely book and that review well, and we say who each one suits so you can plan a schedule that isn't exhausting and doesn't skip the best parts.

Top picks in Krabi

1

Krabi 4 Islands tour

The classic tour almost everyone in Krabi ends up doing. It stops at Poda Island, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Phra Nang Cave Beach, and the highlight is the Separated Sea — a sandbar that surfaces to link the islands at low tide. Pick a slow longtail or a speedboat if you want to cover everything faster. There's time to swim and snorkel over the reefs. The ideal day-one tour.

2

Hong Islands tour

The other boat tour you shouldn't skip. The draw is the Hong lagoon — emerald water ringed by tall cliffs, reached through a narrow gap in the rock — plus a 360-degree viewpoint that takes a short climb but pays off. The water here is usually clear and the crowds are thinner than at the 4 Islands. Some packages throw in a kayak. Good for anyone who wants a calmer day.

3

Phi Phi Islands tour from Krabi

A speedboat day trip from Krabi out to the Phi Phi Islands. It calls at Maya Bay (the beach from the film), Monkey Bay and Viking Cave, with snorkeling stops in clear water and a Thai buffet lunch on Phi Phi Don. It runs around seven hours and goes farther out to sea than the other tours. Best for travelers who want to see Phi Phi without moving hotels. Note: Maya Bay closes 1 Aug–30 Sep every year.

Rock climbing at Railay

Railay is one of the most famous limestone climbing spots in the world. A half-day course has an instructor with you the whole time, teaching everything from harness and rope work to easy routes — total beginners can start here. You climb seaside walls at Railay and Phra Nang beaches, and the views are superb. Made for the adventurous and anyone keen to try something new.

5

Kayaking at Ao Thalane

Paddle a kayak through mangroves and rock channels at Ao Thalane, north of Krabi. The water is calm and easy, so no experience is needed. You glide into caves and narrow waterways flanked by tall cliffs, and you might spot macaques or sea eagles along the way. It's a gentle, close-to-nature outing, with morning slots or a sunset run to choose from.

Emerald Pool & hot springs

A land day in the Khlong Thom area. It starts at the Emerald Pool, a clear green forest pool you can swim in, then a short walk to the deep-blue Blue Pool (no swimming), and finally a soak in natural hot springs that cascade in tiers like a jacuzzi, holding around 35–42°C. A good break from the sea and a change of scene into the forest. Tours often pair it with the Tiger Cave Temple.

Tiger Cave Temple

Wat Tham Sua is a hilltop temple known for the 1,237-step climb to the summit. Make it to the top and a panoramic view over Krabi is your reward. At the base there are caves and shaded meditation areas. Entry is free, though a donation toward upkeep is appreciated. Most tours combine it with the Emerald Pool and hot springs in one day. Good for walkers who want both a view and a cultural stop.

Ao Nang sunset cruise

Close a day with a late-afternoon cruise out of Ao Nang. It stops at nearby islands like Poda and Phra Nang for a swim and snorkel, then you watch the sun set over the water with dinner served on board. Some trips include glowing plankton after dark. Choose a big longtail, a catamaran or a speedboat. Lovely for couples and anyone after a relaxed evening.

FAQ

With 3–4 days in Krabi, which tours should I pick?

Start with one 4 Islands day tour and one Hong Islands day tour — they're the backbone of any Krabi trip. Then add a land day, such as the Emerald Pool, hot springs and Tiger Cave Temple, to rest from the sea. If time is left, add Phi Phi or rock climbing at Railay. Alternating sea days with land days keeps the pace comfortable.

Longtail boat or speedboat — which is better?

A longtail is slower and more traditional, good if you're not rushing and want to soak up the scenery. A speedboat is much faster, fits in more stops in the same time, and can reach farther spots like Phi Phi. For nearby trips such as the 4 Islands, a longtail is pleasant; for longer distances or a packed schedule, a speedboat is the better value.

Do these tours charge an extra national park fee?

Many of them — the 4 Islands, Hong Islands, Phi Phi and the Emerald Pool — carry a national park entrance fee on top of the tour price. Some packages include it; others let you add it at checkout. Read the listing carefully before booking, as the foreign-visitor rate is higher than the Thai rate and is usually collected in cash at the park entrance.
