Where to stay in
Ramkhamhaeng–Hua Mak

Ramkhamhaeng–Hua Mak is a large residential district on Bangkok's east side, best known for Ramkhamhaeng University, Assumption University's (ABAC) Hua Mak campus, and Rajamangala National Stadium, which hosts major concerts and national-team football matches. What changed the area is the MRT Yellow Line running along Ramkhamhaeng Road, plus the Airport Rail Link's Ramkhamhaeng station, which together make getting around far easier. Room rates are clearly cheaper than the central zone, so it suits people visiting the universities, catching a concert or football match at the stadium, or just wanting good-value rooms near The Mall Bangkapi. The trade-off is the distance from the main tourist sights and traffic at peak times.

FAQ

How do you get into the city from Ramkhamhaeng–Hua Mak?

Mainly two lines: the MRT Yellow Line, which runs along Ramkhamhaeng Road and connects to the Blue and Green lines, and the Airport Rail Link from Ramkhamhaeng station, which takes you to Makkasan–Phaya Thai or straight to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Some hotels sit deep in a soi or on the Hua Mak side, so you may need a motorbike taxi or taxi to reach a station, and Ramkhamhaeng Road gets fairly congested at rush hour.

Is it convenient to reach a concert or football match at Rajamangala from here?

Very — it's the main reason many people stay in this area. Rajamangala National Stadium is in the Hua Mak zone near Ramkhamhaeng University, and hotels like Metro Point or Livotel Express sit just a few kilometres from it, a short taxi or motorbike-taxi ride away. On big event days rooms here fill up fast and prices rise, so it's worth booking ahead.

Why stay in Ramkhamhaeng–Hua Mak instead of central Bangkok?

Mainly price and specific errands — rooms here are clearly cheaper than Sukhumvit or Siam, and it makes sense if you have business at Ramkhamhaeng University, ABAC Hua Mak, Ramkhamhaeng Hospital, or an event at Rajamangala Stadium, with The Mall Bangkapi nearby for shopping and food. But if your goal is sightseeing at the Grand Palace, Chinatown, or Sukhumvit nightlife, this district is far out and not the best base.
