Where to stay in Koh Mak

🔄 Updated 20 Jun 2026

Short answer: Koh Mak is a small, quiet island in Trat, between Koh Chang and Koh Kood. The main beaches are Ao Kao (south-west, the most accommodation and a lovely beach) and Ao Suan Yai (north-west, calm water and sunsets); for the most quiet, choose a resort on the hillside or Ao Pra. Koh Mak is about cycling and relaxing, with no nightlife.

FAQ

Which Koh Mak beach should I stay on?

Ao Kao in the south-west is best for a first visit — a lovely beach with the most rooms and restaurants — while Ao Suan Yai in the north-west has calm water and fine sunsets, good for families. The whole island is quiet and easy to cycle across.

How do I get to Koh Mak?

Travel to Trat by road or air, then take a boat from Laem Ngop pier — a speedboat takes about an hour, or a slower, cheaper ferry. Sailings are fewer than to Koh Chang, so check schedules and book ahead, especially off-season.

Who is Koh Mak best for?

It suits couples, families and anyone wanting a quiet, cycling-friendly rest — the island is flat and easy to ride, with clear water, calm beaches and friendly resort owners. It is not for nightlife seekers, as the island deliberately keeps its peace.
