Where to stay in Railay

🔄 Updated 20 Jun 2026

Short answer: Railay is a limestone-cliff peninsula reachable only by boat, with four beaches of its own. For the prettiest, swimmable sand choose Railay West (the main beach); for budget and the boat pier choose Railay East; for climbing and a backpacker scene choose Ton Sai; Phra Nang is the most beautiful but has a single luxury resort.

FAQ

Which Railay beach should I stay on?

Railay West has the best, swimmable beach and suits a first visit, though it is pricier. Railay East is cheaper and by the pier, but it is mangrove with no swim beach (a 5-minute walk to West). Climbers and budget travelers head to Ton Sai.

How do I get to Railay?

Railay is reachable only by longtail boat — there are no roads. It is about 10–15 minutes from Ao Nang, or from Krabi’s Chao Fa pier; boats leave when enough passengers gather, so allow time and carry cash, as goods on the peninsula cost more than on the mainland.

Can I stay at Phra Nang Beach?

Phra Nang has only one ultra-luxury resort (very expensive); most people visit on a day walk from Railay West/East nearby. The beach is gorgeous with clear water, the Phra Nang cave and monkeys — watch your belongings, as the monkeys grab things.
