Where to stay in
Bophut–Fisherman's Village

Bophut is a north-coast district with a clear identity of its own. Its heart is Fisherman's Village — a row of old Sino-Portuguese wooden shophouses turned into restaurants, cafés, bars and shops right by the sea. Friday evenings bring a lively Walking Street market. Bophut Beach stretches out facing Koh Phangan across the water, with calm, shallow water better suited to relaxing than to active swimming. The real draw is the walkable eat-drink-stroll atmosphere, plus being the closest of the island's well-known areas to the airport. It works well for couples, families and anyone who wants the sea without Chaweng's intensity. The trade-offs are a beach that turns shallow and narrow at low tide, and far fewer late-night bars than Chaweng.

FAQ

Who is Bophut–Fisherman's Village best for?

It suits couples, families and anyone who likes to stroll, eat and drink by the sea in a calmer setting than Chaweng. The heart of the area is Fisherman's Village, an old wooden street full of restaurants, cafés and bars, with a busy Walking Street market every Friday evening. If you want lots of late-night bars or a long beach for all-day swimming, Chaweng is a better match.

Is Bophut Beach good for swimming?

Bophut Beach is a quiet stretch of sand facing Koh Phangan across the water, with calm, shallow water that's better for sitting, paddling or letting kids wade than for deep swimming. At low tide some sections become shallow and narrow. If swimming is a priority, most people take a short drive to Chaweng or Lamai, which have deeper water and wider beaches.

How far is Bophut from the airport and Chaweng?

Samui airport is very close, about a 10–15 minute drive, which is a real plus for arrivals and departures. Chaweng — the island's main shopping and nightlife hub — is roughly 15–20 minutes away by car. There's no proper public transport on the island, so most people use songthaews (shared trucks), taxis, ride-hailing apps, or rent a scooter or car.
