Where to stay in
Choeng Mon

Choeng Mon sits on the northeast tip of Koh Samui, just north of Lamai and Chaweng and very close to the Big Buddha and the airport. People come for the small curved bay, where the water is calmer than Chaweng's, shallow and clear, and easy to wade into. At low tide you can even walk out to the little Koh Fan Noi islet in the middle of the bay. The mood is quiet and relaxed, with upscale resorts spread along the sand and a handful of seafood spots and small bars. Anyone who wants more buzz, shops, and nightlife usually takes the roughly 10-minute ride to Chaweng. There's no convenient public transport here, so getting around means hotel shuttles, a taxi, Grab, or a rented scooter.

FAQ

Who is Choeng Mon for, and how does it differ from Chaweng?

Choeng Mon is a quiet, fairly upscale bay with gentle, shallow water, well suited to couples and families with young kids who want a real rest. Chaweng, about 10 minutes away, is far livelier, with more restaurants, malls, and nightlife. If you want calm evenings but still easy access to Chaweng, Choeng Mon is a good middle ground.

How close is Choeng Mon to Samui Airport, and is it easy to get around?

Choeng Mon is very close to Samui Airport, about a 5–10 minute drive, which is handy on arrival and departure days. There's no strong public transport, though, so reaching Chaweng, Lamai, or other sights usually means a hotel shuttle, taxi, or Grab. If you plan several days of island sightseeing, renting a scooter or car is more flexible and cheaper.

Is Choeng Mon beach good for swimming, and is it suitable for kids?

Choeng Mon is a curved bay with gentle waves and shallow water, so it's easy and fairly safe for children to swim. At low tide the water gets very shallow, and in places you can walk out to the Koh Fan Noi islet in the bay. The sand is fine and white and the setting is calm, which suits families. Anyone wanting surf or full-on water sports may prefer Chaweng.
