FAQ

Where is coldest in Thailand’s cool season?

High summits like Phu Thap Boek (Phetchabun), Doi Inthanon (Chiang Mai) and the high peaks of Chiang Rai/Mae Hong Son are coldest, sometimes near 0°C; the deepest cold is Dec–Jan, so pack warm layers.

When should I go to see the sea of mist?

Nov–Feb has the thickest mist and coolest air; head to the viewpoint before sunrise. Long weekends are crowded and rooms sell out fast, so book ahead.

Can I visit the mountains without a car?

Pai and Chiang Khan are easy without a car — the towns are walkable with rentals and tours — while the outskirts of Nan, Khao Kho and Mae Hong Son really need a car or motorbike, as the sights are spread out.
