FAQ

Is solo travel in Thailand safe?

It is generally safe and traveler-friendly, especially in Chiang Mai and the main tourist towns. Mind your valuables, avoid empty areas late at night, check vehicles and boats, and watch your drinks at parties; solo women travel here fine with normal common sense.

Where is easiest to meet other travelers?

Pai, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are easiest, thanks to hostels, group tours, yoga classes and dive courses, while Chiang Mai has cooking classes and a nomad community — stay in hostels or join activities to meet people faster.

Can I travel solo without a car?

Easily — Bangkok has the BTS/MRT and Grab, Chiang Mai and Pai have songthaews and motorbike rentals, and the islands use boats and local songthaews; everywhere on this list works solo without your own car.
