Where to stay in
Klong Muang–Tubkaek

Klong Muang and Tubkaek are two linked beaches on the coast north of Ao Nang, about a 30–45 minute drive from Krabi town and the airport. The whole stretch is given over to mid-range and luxury resorts lined up along the sand, with limestone cliffs and the forested Khao Ngon Nak ridge behind them. Tubkaek, at the northern end, is the quieter beach with clear views out to the Hong Islands. The real draw here is calm and the sunset scenery, not convenience — there's almost no walkable street, few restaurants outside the hotels, and little nightlife. It works best for honeymooners, families who want an easy stay, and anyone happy to base their trip around the resort itself. The trade-off is that you have to plan transport, whether that's a private car, a hotel taxi or a self-drive rental.

FAQ

How is Klong Muang–Tubkaek different from Ao Nang?

Ao Nang is the lively beach district, with a walkable strip of restaurants, bars and a pier for island trips, so you can get around on foot. Klong Muang and Tubkaek are about 15–20 minutes further north by car — a quiet resort coast with little outside the hotels. Their appeal is calm and luxury beachfront stays. Choose Klong Muang–Tubkaek for a peaceful, full-on relaxing trip; choose Ao Nang if you want to walk to food and drinks and reach boats easily.

Can I stay here without a car?

You can, but plan ahead. There's no real public transport and very few shops or restaurants outside the hotels, so most people rely on hotel shuttles or taxis, private cars, or ride-hailing apps. If you mainly intend to stay at the resort and head out to Ao Nang or island tours now and then, you'll be fine. But if you want to eat out every meal or see several places a day, a self-drive rental is more flexible and cheaper over a longer stay.

What's the difference between Klong Muang and Tubkaek beaches?

The two beaches sit side by side on the same coast but feel slightly different. Klong Muang is the longer beach with larger resorts like Sofitel and Dusit Thani, suiting families and those who want full facilities. Tubkaek, at the northern end, is quieter, with clear views of the Hong Islands, and is home to privacy-focused luxury resorts like Banyan Tree, Phulay Bay and The Tubkaak. Choose Klong Muang for families and activities; choose Tubkaek for the quietest setting and the best views.
