A huge border market by the Khlong Luek crossing where people spend all day digging through secondhand clothes, bags, and cheap finds. It's the first thing most people picture when they think of Sa Kaeo.
The largest Khmer stone temple in eastern Thailand, restored to look its best. A must-stop for anyone into history wanting to learn about Khmer civilization.
A limestone hill with caves, a temple, and millions of bats that stream out of the caves at dusk. A nature spot close to Sa Kaeo town.
The Sa Kaeo side of the Dong Phaya Yen–Khao Yai World Heritage forest, with Pang Sida Waterfall, Pha Takhian Waterfall, and butterfly season in early rainy season.
An earthen landscape eroded by water and wind into pillars and cliffs, a bit like Phae Mueang Phi. It's out near Tap Phraya district, and you can tour it by farm tractor.
A busy Thai–Cambodia crossing right next to Rong Kluea Market, the main route for travelers heading to Siem Reap and Angkor Wat.

Sa Kaeo's signature food — real local spots, rounded up and ranked
Sa Kaeo eats mostly Isan-style — som tam, larb, koi, grilled chicken, and sticky rice, easy to find all over town and at the markets.
Around Rong Kluea Market and in Aran town there are noodle shops, rice-and-curry stalls, and street snacks to grab while you shop.
Near the border you'll find Khmer-influenced dishes mixed in — clear-broth noodles, sweets, and snacks that carry flavors from the Poipet side.
Wang Nam Yen and Wang Sombun districts grow melons and other fruit, with farms where you can buy fresh and pick up processed treats as gifts.
A go-to dinner for locals and groups of friends — plenty of grill-your-own pork places at easygoing prices.
The reservoirs and canals supply fresh freshwater fish and tiny shrimp, served boiled, fried, or in spicy salads at local restaurants.
Sa Kaeo town and Aranyaprathet have new cafes and coffee shops opening up — handy for a break between sights.

Ready-made plans — from a day trip to 2–3 days, plus routes to neighbouring provinces

Best time to go, getting around, and what to know before visiting Sa Kaeo
November–February, cool and pleasant — good for walking Rong Kluea Market, visiting the temples, and heading into the forest at Pang Sida. In the rainy season the waterfalls at Pang Sida are at their fullest.

Outside Sa Kaeo town there's plenty to see. Prasat Sdok Kok Thom is the largest Khmer stone temple in the eastern region; Khao Chakan is a hill with caves and clouds of bats that pour out at dusk; Pang Sida National Park has waterfalls and butterflies; and Lalu in Tap Phraya district is an eroded-earth landscape carved into pillars by water. It's a town people often stop at on the way to Cambodia, or come to for quiet nature and Khmer ruins.
