7.6Highlights and sights around Chanthaburi — nature, city and culture
A long stretch of old wooden houses along the Chanthaburi River, with coffee shops, dessert stalls, and local snacks to keep you walking all day. This is the town's signature image.
A large Gothic-style church on the river, across from the riverside community. Inside is a statue of the Virgin Mary adorned with gemstones set by Chanthaburi craftsmen.
A gem-trading district in the heart of town, busiest on weekends. People sit cutting and trading stones right along the street, a sight that's hard to find anywhere else.
A tall mountain people climb to pay respects at the Buddha's footprint and the sacred boulder. It opens only during the cool season, roughly January to March.
A forest waterfall with schools of soro brook carp in its clear pools. It's a short walk in, shady and good for a swim, and one of the province's best-known falls.
From April to June, durian, rambutan, mangosteen, and longkong all ripen together. You can visit orchards to eat straight off the tree, plus fruit markets all over town.

Chanthaburi's signature food — real local spots, rounded up and ranked
Sen chan rice noodles are the province's signature, made into crab pad thai with sen chan and tom yum noodles. You'll find them all over town and can buy dried noodles to take home.
Chanthaburi meets the sea around Laem Sing, Chao Lao, and Pak Nam Khaem Nu, with seafood spots serving crab, prawns, oysters, and fresh fish by the water.
In fruit season there's Mon Thong and Phuang Manee durian, rambutan, and mangosteen sold at markets and orchards, plus fried durian and other processed snacks.
The Chanthaboon Riverside Community has khanom khuai ling, egg sponge cakes, topped crispy rice crackers, and sen chan noodles to snack on at the old shops.
Chanthaburi has mu liang, rakam nam phrik, and dishes made with sour rakam fruit that are local specialties hard to find elsewhere.
In the town center there are noodles, rice with curry, and street snacks at the markets to try as you wander around.
The riverside community and the area around town have cafes set in old wooden houses and coffee shops with river views to take a break in.
Chanthaburi has grown pepper for a long time, with fresh pepper, green peppercorns, and processed products sold as souvenirs all over town.
