Krua Baan Platong isn't a restaurant in the way we usually think of one — it's a house down a small soi in Si Sunthon subdistrict, Thalang district, where two sisters run their own kitchen and welcome guests in to eat. There's no big lit-up sign, no team of servers — just two people cooking, handling every dish themselves from start to finish. That's exactly why MICHELIN fell for the place, awarding it Bib Gourmand starting with the 2025 guide and keeping that status through the 2026 MICHELIN Guide. MICHELIN even notes that this is a favorite spot for Thai celebrities and politicians, which sounds ironic given the restaurant is just an ordinary house down a small soi in Thalang — yet people who could eat anywhere on the island still call days ahead to book a table inside this house.
The food here is real Phuket-style Southern Thai cooking that's getting harder to find by the day. The dish MICHELIN calls the heart of the restaurant is banana-blossom stir-fry with shrimp paste — young banana blossom that has to be carefully selected and prepared, stir-fried with shrimp paste until it's fragrant and richly salty in a way no shortcut seasoning can copy. Another standout is steamed pork belly with budu dipping sauce, where the richness of steamed pork cuts against the bold, punchy budu sauce — eat it with hot steamed rice and you'll understand exactly why people book days in advance. There's also gaeng tumi, an intensely flavored Malay-style curry that reflects Thalang's cultural roots, gaeng som with mong fish and chon, and nam chup yam kung, a Southern-style chili paste that's genuinely hand-pounded together. Every dish is cooked to order by the two sisters, so the restaurant only takes guests in rounds — about three tables per round.
What makes this place even more charming is its location — the restaurant sits on Thep Kasattri Road, a short way north of the Thao Thep Kasattri monument, an area Phuket locals call the monument to the two heroine sisters who defended the city of Thalang. Whether by coincidence or design, the restaurant now driving Thalang's reputation today is also the work of two sisters. Anyone visiting Phuket who's tired of the food around Patong beach should plan a few days ahead and drive up to Thalang for real Phuket food the way locals actually eat it, in a house where the cooks take pride in every single dish.
