Most people think of Chai Nat Bird Park, with its huge walk-in aviaries that let you see the birds up close, and the Chao Phraya Dam, an old water-regulating dam that has long been part of the central river plains. The town itself is small and easy to get around: pay your respects at an old riverside temple, then go see the birds or sit by the dam, all in a single day.
Head out of town toward Sankhaburi and you'll find an old town with U Thong–Ayutthaya-era temples where the old chedis and ordination halls still stand. Around Manorom and Wat Pak Khlong Makham Thao there's the legend of Luang Pu Suk that draws people to come and pay respects. Chai Nat sits between Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani, so it's easy to stop in while passing through and string it into a Chao Phraya River-plains trip without rushing.
